The venue introduced the Charles Town Classic for older horses for one and 1/8 mile running. The first NFL Hall of Famer Sam Huff also organized the first West Virginia Breeders’ Classics. There were four open stakes worth a total of $500,000. The track inaugurated The Sprint Festival in 2008 at Hollywood Casino located at Charles Town Race. Hollywood Casino also contains sports betting, table games, and over 3,000 slot machines.
The venue generally runs five days on a weekly schedule. The venue features a six-furlong thoroughbred horse racing facility known as the home of the West Virginia Breeders’ Classic. Hollywood Casino was previously named as Jefferson County Races and Charles Town Races & Slots. The venue is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn National Gaming and opened on December 3, 1933.
